Tom Babbitt, LCPC

As the holder of a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School, I am trained for work with individuals, couples, emerging adults (18-25), adolescents, families and groups. In the 90's, I worked with a variety of populations and with a broad range of issues during my eight years as a Senior Staff Member at Spring Hill of Ashby, a treatment center/48-hour intensive weekend workshop in Massachusetts - we put on a powerful program called The Opening the Heart Workshop - still available to the public through the wonderful Omega Institute and Kripalu Institute. I studied with Terry Real and his Relational Life Institute to become certified in his powerful model based on his best-seller The New Rules of Marriage: A breakthrough Program for 21st Century Relationships. I used to see clients at the Colby College Counseling Center in Waterville and worked previously with Merrymeeting Behavioral Health Associates here in Brunswick, supervising in-home workers addressing the needs of children and adults with (often severe) behavioral, mental health, and socio-economic challenges here in Maine. I have given talks and led exercises addressing men's issues, shame, racism, sexual abuse, addiction, spirituality, Dissociative Identity Disorder and deep feelings work. I have run or staffed groups of my own here in the Maine area, as well as at various conferences in New England including Omega Institute with national presenters Robert & Judith Gass, and done extensive individual psychotherapy during year-long internships at both the University of New England and Colby College counseling centers.
